Extrapolated Social Preferences
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper proposes a simpler interpretation of Harsanyi’s impartial observer idea. It postulates an impartiality axiom with respect to the distributions of a certain “benchmark good”. The axiom requires society to be indifferent between each distribution of the good and an equiprobable lottery among all distributions that differ from it only in the matching between individuals and allocations (and not in the size distribution of allocations). Combined with a Pareto condition, this impartiality requirement characterizes a complete social ranking, which is distinct from Harsanyi’s. Applying this impartiality requirement to all possible “benchmark goods” generates a partial social ranking, which nonetheless may be broader than the Pareto ranking. JEL Classification: D63

A social recommender system based on matrix factorization considering dynamics of user preferences
With the expansion of social networks, the use of recommender systems in these networks has attracted considerable attention. Recommender systems have become an important tool for alleviating the information that overload problem of users by providing personalized recommendations to a user who might like based on past preferences or observed behavior about one or various items. In these systems...

متن کاملSolving the ridesharing problem with Non-homogeneous vehicles by using an improved genetic algorithm and the social preferences of the users
Most existing ridesharing systems perform travel planning based only on two criteria of spatial and temporal similarity of travelers. In general, neglecting the social preferences caused to reduce users' willingness to use ridesharing services. To achieve this purpose a system should be designed and implemented not just based on two necessary conditions of spatial and temporal similarities, but...
متن کاملExperiments, Surveys and the Use of Representative Samples as Reference Data
During the last two decades, laboratory experiments have come into increasing prominence and constitute a popular method of research to examine behavioral outcomes and social preferences. However, it has been debated whether results from these experiments can be extrapolated to the real world and whether, for example, sample selection into the experiment might constitute a major shortcoming of ...
متن کاملHarnessing the Potential to Quantify Public Preferences for Healthcare Priorities through Citizens’ Juries
Despite progress towards greater public engagement, questions about the optimal approach to access public preferences remain unanswered. We review two increasingly popular methods for engaging the public in healthcare priority-setting and determining their preferences; the Citizens’ Jury (CJ) and Discrete Choice Experiment (DCE). We discuss the theoretical framework from which each method is de...
